TAAN to Raise Relief Fund for Victims of Freak Storm
Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal, the premier trade body of trekking agents, will raise relief funds and materials for distribution to the victims of a freak storm that tore through Province No 2, killing 28 and injuring hundreds. This was revealed at a press brief held this morning at TAAN Secretariat.
Speaking to the reporters at the brief, Mr Nawaraj Dhakal, President TAAN, informed that the association will approach its office bearers, members, secretariat staff and the public at large to raise relief materials, both in cash and kind, for the affected victims. Mr Dhakal further added that TAAN’s campaign will be time-bound, limited to a week to 10 days. He made it clear that TAAN will not be involved in distributing the relief collection but will hand them over to the concerned federal and/or provincial agencies for necessary action.
On the occasion, three office bearers donated cash to the relief fund in the presence of the TAAN president and the press corps.
President Dhakal also appealed to the press to inform the public of its efforts to raise relief materials so that people can contribute to its relief fund. Donations can be made in cash and kind such as tents, mattresses, food, clothing etc.
Interested samaritans are requested to contact TAAN Secretariat at Malegaon just off the famous Naxal Bhagawati Temple. They can be contacted by phone on 4427473, 4440920, 4440921.
A strong freak killer storm had devastated Bara and Parsa of Province 2 on March 31, killing 27 and injuring 400. The tolls have climbed since then.
